A bill of materials (BOM) is a structured list of all the raw materials, parts, components, subassemblies, and quantities required to manufacture a product. In simple terms, it is the product’s shopping list. A single-level BOM lists the parts used directly in the finished product, while a multi-level BOM also shows the components that make up each subassembly.

When a manufacturing order is created, MRPeasy multiplies the quantities in the BOM by the order quantity and checks whether the required materials are available. It identifies shortages, considers supplier lead times, calculates purchase requirements, and helps create pre-filled purchase orders for missing materials.
MRPeasy estimates the material cost of a BOM using current inventory costs or estimated purchase costs. When the BOM is connected with a production routing, material, labor, and overhead costs can be included in cost estimates and compared with actual manufacturing costs after production.
