Many big retail businesses only deal with distributors who have traceability functions in place.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You are selling to consumers and need to know which products any client received.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Even one of the previous reasons is important enough to implement a lot tracking system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_is_a_stock_lot\"><\/span>What is a stock lot?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The simplest explanation is that a stock lot is one batch of some product.&nbsp;For example, each time a batch of product is purchased, a new batch is sent to replenish; therefore, a new stock lot number (aka \u201ca batch number\u201d) is created to identify it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may have many stock lots of the same material &#8211; purchased at different times, with different costs, possibly from different vendors, with different expiry dates, stored in different locations\/shelves, some of which have certificates, files or notes attached, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once this information has been recorded and associated with the stock lot number, then this allows you to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Know exactly what you have in stock, in which batches, the locations, how much is the actual value, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>See if anything is going to expire and act accordingly.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Store lot-specific information, like delivery notes, Certificates of Conformance, or other documents.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Track the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mrpeasy.com\/blog\/actual-costing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">actual cost<\/a> of each end-product, since the actual cost of materials used is known.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Trace defects from an end-product to a specific production run and to specific batches of materials.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_does_a_stock_lot_tracking_work\"><\/span>How does a stock lot tracking work?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mrpeasy.com\/blog\/how-manufacturing-erp-streamlines-lot-tracking\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lot tracking<\/a> ensures that the history of every product and material is known.
